Ethyl 2-chloroethanimidoate hydrochloride is a modulating agent that can be used to treat infectious diseases. It binds to the carbonyl group of influenza virus protein hemagglutinin, which is found on the surface of the virus and is responsible for its attachment to host cells. The hydroxyl group of ethyl 2-chloroethanimidoate hydrochloride interacts with the amide bond in hemagglutinin, inhibiting its function and thereby preventing infection. This chemical has been shown to be active against a number of bacteria and fungi as well as against amoebae. Ethyl 2-chloroethanimidoate hydrochloride also has anticoagulant properties that may be due to its ability to inhibit thrombin activity by binding to the functional groups in this enzyme.
