Ethyl oxazole-5-carboxylate is the organic compound with the formula (CH3)2C=OCH2CH2CO2Et. It is a reagent for alkylation, arylation and imidazole synthesis. Ethyl oxazole-5-carboxylate has been used to synthesize biomolecules such as pyrroloquinoline quinone and other heterocycles. Ethyl oxazole-5-carboxylate can be prepared by reacting ethoxyethane with sodium hydroxide in a high yield reaction. This process also causes the formation of ethoxyethanol, which is a useful reagent itself for organic synthesis.
