4-Ethylbenzenesulfonamide is a compound that belongs to the class of blockers. It is used in the treatment of diabetes. The 4-ethylbenzenesulfonamide analog prevents the synthesis of acetyl coenzyme A, which is important for glucose production. This drug inhibits the activity of acetyl coenzyme A acylase, an enzyme involved in fatty acid metabolism. The 4-ethylbenzenesulfonamide analog has also been shown to inhibit viral polymerase and viral DNA synthesis by binding to subunits of these enzymes.
4-Ethylbenzenesulfonamide has been shown to be effective against hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV). However, it does not inhibit human cytosolic or nuclear polymerases or other non-structural proteins such as those found in adenovirus, herpes simplex virus, influenza virus, and vaccinia virus.
