Erythromycin estolate is an antimicrobial agent that has been shown to inhibit protein synthesis and fatty acid synthesis. This drug also has a number of metabolic side effects, including symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort. Other side effects include dizziness, headache, and skin rash. Acute maxillary sinusitis may be diagnosed by the presence of symptoms such as erythema and edema of the nasal mucosa in combination with a purulent nasal discharge.
