Ethyl 3-chlorobenzoate is a trisubstituted organic compound that can be synthesized in an isomeric manner by the palladium catalyzed coupling of ethyl benzoate with chloroacetonitrile. Ethyl 3-chlorobenzoate has been shown to have potent inhibitory activity against bacterial growth, and can be used as an antibacterial agent. Ethyl 3-chlorobenzoate also inhibits the production of epoxides and n-dimethylformamide. This compound binds to the active site of halogenases, halogenating agents, and aminocarbonylating agents, which are enzymes that catalyze reactions involving halides or amines.
