Ethoxyacridine-6,9-diamine 2-hydroxypropionate monohydrate is an antimicrobial agent that inhibits the growth of bacteria by inhibiting protein synthesis. It has minimal toxicity and is effective against a variety of microorganisms, including herpes simplex virus (HSV). Ethoxyacridine-6,9-diamine 2-hydroxypropionate monohydrate has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in animal models and may be useful for treating chronic diarrhea. Ethoxyacridine-6,9-diamine 2-hydroxypropionate monohydrate does not react with misoprostol, which is used as a prostaglandin E1 analog to treat peptic ulcers. The mechanism of action for this drug is not yet known but it may induce apoptotic cell death.
