1-Ethynyl-4-(propan-2-yloxy)benzene is a synthetic compound that has been used as a pharmacological treatment. It blocks the synaptic uptake of forskolin and inhibits the electrical activity of neurons in cell culture. The mechanism by which 1-ethynyl-4-(propan-2-yloxy)benzene exerts its effects is not well understood, but it may inhibit cellular uptake and transport pathways, leading to an accumulation of forskolin at synapses. This in turn leads to an increase in intracellular cAMP levels and downstream effects on protein kinase A (PKA) activity. The biochemical effects of 1-ethynyl-4-(propan-2-yloxy)benzene are also not well understood, but it has been shown to stimulate phosphoinositide hydrolysis and increase the production of ATP.
