The carbonyl group in this molecule has been shown to react with the hydroxyl group of serine residues on human liver microsomes and ovary cytosol, but not on human serum or human liver microsomes. 17b-Estradiol diacetate is also an analytical method for determining the concentration of estradiol in human serum and human liver samples. 17β-Estradiol diacetate is activated by enzymes, which causes its uptake by cells.
