EHMF has been shown to have antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, as well as yeast and various fungi. In addition, it has been shown to be an inhibitor of HIV infection. EHMF inhibits the production of reactive oxygen species by polymorphonuclear leucocytes and can inhibit tumor growth in cancer gene therapy.
