Ethyl 4-quinazolone-2-carboxylate is an ethyl ester of quinazolinone. It has been shown to have anticancer activity against colon adenocarcinoma cells and candida glabrata, a type of yeast that causes oral thrush. Ethyl 4-quinazolone-2-carboxylate has also been shown to be a topoisomerase inhibitor, which prevents DNA replication and transcription. This drug also exhibits hemolytic activity, which means it can cause the destruction of red blood cells in the body. The amine group on this compound reacts with a carboxylic acid to form an amide bond, which is used in the synthesis of various other compounds.
