Ethyl (trimethylsilyl)acetate is an organic compound that is used as a reactant in chemical synthesis. It has been shown to be an efficient biocide against bacteria and fungi, but not resistant to tetracycline. Ethyl (trimethylsilyl)acetate can also be used as a dry weighting agent for polymer films, which are biocompatible polymers. This compound has been shown to have antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). The antimicrobial activity of ethyl (trimethylsilyl)acetate may be attributed to its ability to disrupt bacterial membranes by reacting with the hydroxyl group on the cell wall.
