Ethyl (phenylthio)acetate is a chemical compound that is used in the synthesis of other organic compounds. It is a colorless liquid with an unpleasant odor. Ethyl (phenylthio)acetate can be used as an oxidizing agent to convert azides into nitriles, which are more easily reduced to amines. It can also be used to desulfurize tetroxide and acceptors, transfer ethyl bromoacetate, or condense cyclic sodium periodate with aldehydes to form azide ionic form or hydrogen peroxide photoreduction products. In addition, it can be used as a reducing agent for carboxylates.
