4-Ethylbenzenethiol is a thiol molecule that has been found to be an effective inhibitor of the enzyme peptidylglycine alpha-amidating monooxygenase (PAM) and can be used to identify the presence of this enzyme in urine samples. 4-Ethylbenzenethiol binds to the active site of PAM, which is a target for drug discovery. The binding inhibits the synthesis of glycine from glutamic acid, leading to inhibition of influenza virus replication.
