2-Ethyl-3-methoxypyrazine is a synthetic compound that was first synthesized in the early 20th century. It has been used as a chemical intermediate for the production of other chemicals and it is also used as an analytical reagent. The 2-ethyl-3-methoxypyrazine molecule consists of an ethyl group, a methoxy group, and a pyrazine ring. This molecule has two isomers: 2-methyl-3-methoxypyrazine and 3,5-dimethylpyrazine. The 2-methyl isomer can be obtained by reacting hydrochloric acid with 2,5-dimethoxyaniline. In addition to being used as an analytical reagent, this compound can be used to identify the presence of chloride ion in organic compounds by using mass spectrometry.
