Ethyl N-Boc-piperidine-4-carboxylate is a calcium channel antagonist that has been shown to block the l-type calcium channels. It is hypothesized that this drug binds to the calcium channel and blocks the influx of calcium ions, which leads to relaxation of vascular smooth muscle cells in blood vessels. This agent may also have affinity for other types of calcium channels and may be able to target t-type channels. Ethyl N-Boc-piperidine-4-carboxylate's pharmacophore model has been developed based on its chemical structure and other compounds known to bind to these receptors.
