Ethyl 4,4,4-trifluoro-2-butynoate is a chemical compound that belongs to the class of alkylating agents. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of cryptococcus neoformans. This product is also used as a reagent in organic synthesis and can be used to produce triflic acid and halides. Ethyl 4,4,4-trifluoro-2-butynoate is reacted with imidazole derivatives or boronic acids to form reaction products. The fluoro substituent on ethyl 4,4,4-trifluoro-2-butynoate can react with hydrogen atoms from hydroxyl groups on red blood cells to form second order rate constants for cross coupling reactions.
