1,2-Epoxydecane is a reactive epoxide that is expressed by the reaction of cyclopentene oxide and ferredoxin. These reactions produce 1,2-epoxydecane as well as other products. The proton of the epoxide group can be transferred to another molecule or acceptor, which may result in a new product or an epoxide with a different number of carbons. Magnetic resonance spectroscopy has been used to identify fatty acids and fatty alcohols in 1,2-epoxydecane. Chemical structures have been created for the production of 1,2-epoxydecane and its reactants. The reaction mechanism for the conversion of ferredoxin to 1,2-epoxydecane has also been elucidated.
