Ergosinine is a natural chemical found in plants. It can be extracted using an analytical method, and then purified by alkaloids, nutrient solution and enzyme activities. The redox potential of ergosinine can be measured using matrix effect, primary cells, or dispersive solid-phase extraction. Ergosinine has been shown to have anti-bacterial activity when tested on bacterial strains such as Bacillus subtilis and Escherichia coli. Ergocryptine is a related compound that has been found to have similar properties to ergosinine. Ergocryptine has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties in humans and model systems.
