Ethyl 5-[2-Chloro-4-(Trifluoromethyl)Phenoxy]-2-Nitrobenzoate is an active form of retinoic acid, a natural hormone that regulates the growth and development of cells. It is used as a plant growth regulator to induce leaf formation in plants that are not green or chlorophyllous. This product has been shown to be cytotoxic against subtilis, which are Gram-positive bacteria that are not affected by other antibiotics. Ethyl 5-[2-Chloro-4-(Trifluoromethyl)Phenoxy]-2-Nitrobenzoate has also been found to inhibit nuclear DNA synthesis and fatty acid synthesis in plants.
