Fmoc-Met-OH is an amino acid that has significant cytotoxicity. It is a neutral molecule with a pKa of 7.6, and is soluble in water at low pH. The hydrogen bonding interactions of Fmoc-Met-OH are strong and involve the amino group and the side chain carboxyl groups, as well as other hydrophobic interactions with aromatic rings. Fmoc-Met-OH is also an acid analysis reagent for chlorine atoms because it can be easily converted to methoxychlor (CHClO). Fmoc-Met-OH has been shown to inhibit epidermal growth factor receptor signaling and has been used to block epidermal growth factor induced cell cycle progression in cancer cells.
