[(2R,3R,4R,5R)-5-(5-Fluoro-2,4-Dioxo-Pyrimidin-1-Yl) -3,4-Dihydroxy-Oxolan-2-Yl]Methyl Octanoate is a prodrug that is hydrolyzed in the human body to form 5-[(2R,3R,4R,5R)-3-(2,6-dichlorophenyl) -5-(hydroxymethyl)-4-(methyloxy)oxolan-2-yl]-2,4,-dioxopyrimidine. It has been shown to be an effective agent for the treatment of sarcomas and other cancers. The lipiodol component of this prodrug is used as a contrast agent for lymphography. This product can also be used as a protein stabilizer in bovine and porcine liver preparations.
