1-fluoro-3,5-dimethylbenzene is the simplest fluorinated analog of benzene. It is a colorless liquid with a chloroform-like odor. 1-fluoro-3,5-dimethylbenzene has potent cytotoxicity and stable complexes with anions such as chloride and formyl. The nmr spectra of this compound show that it contains a single hydrogen atom on the para position and two methyl groups on the ortho positions. This compound has been shown to cause cell apoptosis in vitro, which may be due to its ability to inhibit DNA synthesis and induce oxidative stress.
