The substance is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of other organic compounds and can be found in nitropropane, which is used for rocket fuel. 1-fluoro-4-methoxy-2-methylbenzene is metabolized through the liver and kidneys, where it binds to monoamine transporters (e.g., serotonin) and nerve cells. This substance also has affinity for the nervous system, where it inhibits monoamine oxidase and blocks postsynaptic ion channels. 1-fluoro-4-methoxy-2-methylbenzene has been shown to have positron emission tomography (PET) properties that are useful for imaging the brain or other organs in humans and animals.
