6-fluoro-1H-indol-5-ol is a hydroxybenzylidene carbamoyl nitro compound. It is a potent inhibitor of angiogenesis in animal models and has been shown to inhibit the growth of tumors in mice. 6-fluoro-1H-indol-5-ol also inhibits the production of inflammatory cytokines, such as IL6 and TNFα, by inhibiting the activation of the transcription factor nuclear factor kappa B (NFκB). This agent has been found to be well tolerated in humans with rheumatoid arthritis.
