3-Fluoro-2-methylpyridine (3FM) is an alkoxycarbonyl compound that acts as a serotonin receptor and a tyrosine kinase inhibitor. It has been shown to have antibacterial properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the protein tyrosine phosphatases that are responsible for regulating intracellular levels of various signaling molecules. 3FM also inhibits the reuptake of serotonin in the brain, which is thought to contribute to its antidepressant effects. 3FM has also been shown to be effective against Alzheimer's disease and cancer cells. The drug binds to the benzofuran derivatives, which are receptors on the surface of cancer cells. This binding prevents the uptake of nitric oxide by these cells, leading to cell death. 3FM also binds with trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) and forms a nitro derivative.
