(S)-3-Fluoropyrrolidine is a drug that inhibits the enzyme dipeptidyl peptidase IV which can be used in the treatment of diseases related to the nervous system. The oxadiazole and azetidine moieties are responsible for its activity as DPP-IV inhibitors. Pharmacological assays have shown that (S)-3-fluoropyrrolidine has no effect on the central nervous system, but it does affect peripheral nerves, which can be beneficial for patients with neuropathy or diabetic neuropathy. Modifications on this molecule have been made to increase its potency and decrease its side effects.
