It has been shown to have an inhibitory concentration of 1.0 microM and an inhibition constant of 2.2 nM against the enzyme isomerase in Escherichia coli, which is responsible for the synthesis of cyclic peptides. This drug also inhibits the growth of other bacteria such as Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus, and Streptococcus pyogenes. 2-ForMyl-5-(trifluoroMethyl)phenylboronic acid inhibits protein synthesis by binding to the active site of the enzyme and blocking its function.
