Flurbiprofen sodium dihydrate is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that belongs to the group of fluorescein angiography. It is used in the treatment of rheumatic disorders, osteoarthritis and other inflammatory conditions. Flurbiprofen inhibits the release of prostaglandins, thereby reducing inflammation, pain and swelling. Flurbiprofen sodium dihydrate has been shown to inhibit ATP channels in mammalian tissue and bacterial cells, which may be due to its interaction with fatty acids. This drug also binds to cationic surfactants such as benzalkonium chloride and has been shown to have antimicrobial activity against a wide range of microorganisms, including Gram-positive bacteria (e.g., Staphylococcus aureus) and Gram-negative bacteria (e.g., Escherichia coli).
