Falcarinol is an active component of the plant Croton zehntneri. It has been shown to have significant cytotoxicity and neurotrophic activities in HL-60 cells. Falcarinol has also been shown to inhibit protein synthesis by altering the dinucleotide phosphate levels, which may be due to its ability to bind to nuclear DNA. This may lead to inhibition of gene expression, which can be useful for the treatment of diseases such as bowel disease. Falcarinol also has a number of biological properties that are involved in signal pathways and energy metabolism, and it may provide therapeutic benefits for a range of diseases.
