Florfenicol amine hydrochloride is a prodrug that is hydrolyzed in vivo to the active form, florfenicol. It is used in veterinary medicine for the treatment of respiratory and enteric infections of cattle, sheep, and pigs. Florfenicol amine hydrochloride has been shown to be stable against alcohols and hydrolysis by esterases. Florfenicol amine hydrochloride also functions as an analog of chloramphenicol. This compound can be used to calibrate a liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method for the determination of chloramphenicol in milk samples. The calibration curve was obtained using matrix-matched calibration standards with recoveries between 71% and 102%.
