S-(4-Fluorophenyl)mercapturic acid (FPMA) is an organic compound that is a metabolite of the drug 4-fluorophenyl mercapturic acid. FPMA is excreted in human urine and can be used as a biomarker for occupational exposure to styrene, which has been shown to cause cancer in animal studies. The concentrations of FPMA in biological fluids are proportional to the dose of styrene exposure. FPMA is also excreted in the urine of patients with hepatic disease and those who are on hemodialysis.
