Fluperolone acetate is a synthetic steroid that has been used as an anti-inflammatory agent. It is a potent corticosteroid and has been shown to inhibit the growth of microorganisms, such as bacteria and fungi. Fluperolone acetate does not cross the blood-brain barrier into the central nervous system, so it can be used for the treatment of inflammatory diseases in the eye without affecting vision. This drug also has been shown to reduce choroidal neovascularization in patients with age-related macular degeneration. Some biodegradable implants have been made from fluoropolymers, which are biocompatible polymers that are degraded by hydrolysis or enzymatic action in vivo. These implants may provide a sealant for use in surgical procedures and for treating cavities.
