Descrição:Valacyclovir is a prodrug of acyclovir. Valacyclovir is converted to acyclovir by the enzyme valacyclovir hydrolase in the body. Valacyclovir is available as a sodium dihydrogen phosphate monohydrate salt, which is more soluble in water than the free acid form. The most commonly used research methods for assessing valacyclovir and its metabolites are high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Valacyclovir has shown linearity over the range of 10 mg to 1000 mg when validated with orthophosphoric acid as an internal standard and using hypersil as a wavelength marker. Valacyclovir can be administered intravenously or orally at doses of 250 mg three times daily.
