Fmoc-3-(3'-pyridyl)-L-alanine is a hydrophobic amino acid that has been shown to exhibit antiinflammatory and analgesic effects. It is a substrate for the enzyme kallikrein, which cleaves it to form the active compound 3-pyridylglycine. Fmoc-3-(3'-pyridyl)-L-alanine may be a potential drug for the treatment of arthritis or other inflammatory conditions due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis. This amino acid also reacts with basic amino acids, such as lysine, and is used in assays to detect the presence of these amino acids.
