Fmoc-(3S)-beta-Pro-OH is a coupling agent that has been shown to be effective in the synthesis of polypeptides. This compound can be used to introduce functional groups onto amino acid residues during peptide synthesis and also for the introduction of acetate, butyric acid, or buserelin onto the carboxyl group of a growing peptide chain. Fmoc-(3S)-beta-Pro-OH is commonly used in solid-phase peptide synthesis. The chemical structure of this molecule consists of an amide bond between two proline residues with a carbonyl group at one end and an amine at the other. Trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) is often used as a catalyst for reactions involving Fmoc-(3S)-beta-Pro-OH because it reacts with the carbonyl group to form an ester intermediate that can be easily removed by reaction with water.
