Fmoc-L-4-carbamoylphenylalanine is a molecule that modulates the activity of protein-coupled receptors. It is an allosteric modulator that has been shown to bind to the orthosteric site on β2-adrenergic receptors and induce functional activity. Fmoc-L-4-carbamoylphenylalanine is soluble in formamide and can be used as a paradigm for other molecules with similar functions. This molecule also has affinity for other proteins, such as those found on the surface of bacteria, and modifies them by forming covalent bonds. Fmoc-L-4-carbamoylphenylalanine can also be used as a modulator of affinity between proteins.
