4-(4-Fluorophenyl)-4-hydroxypiperidine is a reactive amide that has been shown to be an inhibitor of collagenase, an enzyme that degrades the connective tissue in the eye. It has also been shown to inhibit the production of proinflammatory cytokines and promote the proliferation of diabetic retinopathy cells in vitro. 4-(4-Fluorophenyl)-4-hydroxypiperidine is a potent antagonist for mitogen activated protein kinases (MAPK) such as phorbol esters, which are involved in cellular events such as cell growth and differentiation. 4-(4-Fluorophenyl)-4-hydroxypiperidine inhibits peroxidases, which are enzymes that oxidize lipid molecules, and can be used to prevent polymerization reactions. It also inhibits fatty acid synthase and activates catalase.
