2-Fluoro-3-(trifluoromethyl)aniline is a fluorinating agent that can be used in organic synthesis. It is synthesized from 2,4-dinitrofluorobenzene and aniline. Fluorination of the nitro group takes place at the alpha position to form a 3,5-dinitrofluoroaniline, which can then be hydrolyzed with hydrogen fluoride to produce the desired product. This compound is used as a reagent for the preparation of fluorinated amines, such as fluoroformamide. In this reaction, the aniline reacts with hydrogen fluoride to produce 2-fluoro-3-(trifluoromethyl)aniline and ammonia. The aniline can then react with another equivalent of hydrogen fluoride to form 2-fluoro-N-methylbenzenamine.
