CFluoroacetamide is a glycol ether that inhibits the growth of bacteria by inhibiting the synthesis of ribonucleic acid. CFluoroacetamide is used as a sample preparation agent in immunoassays and as an antimicrobial agent in disinfectants. It has been shown to have low toxicity and can be used for studies on resistant mutants. CFluoroacetamide has been reported to be active against gram-positive bacteria, such as Staphylococcus and Streptococcus species, and some gram-negative bacteria, such as Escherichia coli. The fluoroacetamide moiety has also been shown to inhibit the synthesis of DNA in rat liver microsomes. CFluoroacetamide has been found to bind to antibodies raised against it, leading to a diagnostic antibody response.
