5-Fluorobenzofuran is a fungicide that has been used to control the growth of fungi on food and other surfaces. 5-Fluorobenzofuran has been shown to inhibit microbial growth in foods that are subjected to elevated temperatures. This chemical has been shown to inhibit the growth of Penicillium and Aspergillus flavus while having no effect on Aspergillus niger.
