Iodomethylbenzene is an organic compound that is used in the synthesis of a variety of drugs. It has the formula CHI. The compound is prepared by reacting 1-fluoro-4-iodobenzene with sodium methoxide followed by zinc chloride. Iodomethylbenzene can be used as a precursor to other drugs, such as alkylating agents and radiotracers. It is also used as a reagent in the synthesis of diarylmethanes and halides, and can be synthesized from naphthoic acid, which is readily available commercially.
