It is a chlorinated organic compound, with a molecular weight of 154.11 g/mol and a boiling point of 155°C at 760 mmHg. 2-Fluoro-5-(aminomethyl)pyridine binds to the active site of the enzyme ribulose bisphosphate carboxylase (RuBisCO), which catalyzes the first step in carbon fixation in plants, thus preventing them from fixing carbon dioxide into carbohydrates. This inhibition prevents the formation of carbohydrates and leads to cell death.
