5-Fluoro-2-methylphenyl isocyanate (5FM) is an industrially important chemical that can be synthesized by reacting 2-chloroaniline with methyl isocyanate. 5FM has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells in vitro and in vivo. It has also been shown to have antitumour activity against a variety of cancers, including alveolar, bronchial, and lung cancers. The mechanism of action for 5FM is unclear but may involve the introduction of methyl groups into cancer cells.
