4-Fluorophenethylamine hydrochloride is a membrane-active agent that can be used to study the effects of substances on lipid bilayers. The drug has been shown to disrupt bilayers and multilayers with increasing concentrations, and it can also be used to measure the degree of resistance to osmotic disruption. 4-Fluorophenethylamine hydrochloride is moderately toxic, but it is not known how the drug affects membrane surface proteins or how it interacts with other drugs. This product may be used as an intermediate in organic chemistry reactions involving electron transfer.
