4-(Fluoromethyl)Cyclohexanecarboxylic acid (4-FCA) is a modulator of epithelial-mesenchymal transition and has been shown to inhibit mitochondrial function. 4-FCA induces apoptosis in cancer cells by inhibiting the acetylation of histone Lysine residues on the H3 protein, which is required for transcriptional activation. It also inhibits DNA methyltransferase (DNMT) activity and HDAC inhibitor activity. These activities contribute to 4-FCA’s ability to regulate cellular proliferation, which may be useful in the treatment of cancers with BCL-2 protein family mutations that are resistant to other treatments.
