2-Fluoro-5-hydroxy-3,6-dimethylpyridine-4-carbaldehyde is a molecule that can be found in the form of an oil. It is a pyridoxal phosphate inhibitor that binds to the glycogen phosphorylase enzyme, which is involved in the metabolism of glycogen. 2-Fluoro-5-hydroxy-3,6-dimethylpyridine-4-carbaldehyde has been shown to inhibit phosphite synthesis and increase vitamin B6 levels in rats. This inhibition prevents the conversion of glycogen phosphorylase into its active form by preventing dephosphorylation. The optimum pH for this compound is between 6 and 8. Modifications to this molecule include substitutions at the pyridine ring with electron withdrawing groups or electron donating groups. Kinetics have been determined for this molecule, and it was found to have a magnetic moment due to its pyridine ring.
