4-Fluoropyridine-2-carboxylic acid (4-FP) is a monoaminergic agent that binds to the metabotropic glutamate receptor type 2 (mGluR2). It has been shown to be effective in treating depression and anxiety. 4-FP is a modulator of the mGluR2 receptor, which is an allosteric site on the receptor. The binding site for 4-FP is on the extracellular side of the mGluR2 receptor, where it acts as a competitive antagonist by blocking glutamate from binding. This may be due to its ability to increase serotonin levels in the brain by inhibiting serotonin reuptake.
