(3R,4R,5R)-3-Fluoro-5-Iodo-2-(2-Nitroimidazol-1-Yl)Oxan-4-Ol is a cytotoxic agent that inhibits the formation of new blood vessels and tumor growth in solid tumors. It has been shown to be effective at inhibiting tumor growth in animal models. This drug binds to DNA, preventing the synthesis of both RNA and proteins. The mechanism of action is not well understood, but it may involve inhibition of factors important for blood vessel formation or cell cycle progression. (3R,4R,5R)-3-Fluoro-5-Iodo-2-(2-Nitroimidazol-1-Yl)Oxan-4-Ol also has the ability to cross the blood brain barrier and can be used as a diagnostic agent for cerebral angiogenesis.
