It is a high purity reagent that is used as a pharmacological research tool and has been shown to be an activator of ion channels. 11-Mercaptoundecyl)hexa(ethylene glycol) has been shown to bind to the extracellular domain of the receptor for angiotensin II. The binding of this ligand to the receptor induces conformational changes in the protein that leads to activation of the receptor.
