Glycodeoxycholic acid sodium salt is a bile acid that is used as a dietary supplement. The most common use of this product is to manage the symptoms of constipation, especially in women. This drug has been shown to be insoluble in water and in plasma. It also has a low molecular weight and is not absorbed by the intestines, which prevents it from being metabolized. Glycodeoxycholic acid sodium salt has been shown to increase muscle mass and decrease fat mass, as well as improve heart function. The mechanism for these effects may be due to its ability to inhibit taurocholic acid synthesis through activation of the farnesoid X receptor (FXR).
